The teacher held up a big picture of the sun. She turned off the classroom light for a moment, then opened the curtain. Layan jumped to the window and said, "The sky is changing its color!" The morning sparkled outside the glass in a light yellow. Layan smiled and quickly grabbed her box of colors.
During recess, Layan went out to the wide garden. She sat down to draw the sun, the grass, and the benches, sometimes in yellow and sometimes in orange. The crayon made a soft scratching sound on the paper. Layan laughed when she saw the tree's shadow was longer than her jumping toy. Then she returned to the classroom with papers filled with the colors of the day.
In the afternoon, Layan looked at the sky again. She saw the blue getting a little bigger, and the purple creeping at the edge of the clouds. Suddenly, a pink cloud appeared, looking like a flying piece of candy. Layan said, "Oh! Now the colors have changed."
Layan returned to the quiet window. She opened her box of cool colors and began to color pictures of the night. She looked once at the paper and once at the sky outside the glass. Then she gathered the pictures of the day into one pile and the pictures of the night into another pile before the last activity.
At the end of the day, Layan spread the pictures on the floor in front of her classmates. She said, "Put each picture under a warm card or a cool card." The pictures moved between the two cards, but the sunset picture stopped in the middle. It had orange and blue together.
A soft whisper filled the classroom. Layan lifted the sunset picture and said, "This is between day and night!" Then she placed it between the cards. Her classmates clapped, and outside the window, the last golden line sparkled in the sky.
