The natural history museum was grand and quiet, filled with towering displays. A massive shadow stretched across the cold marble floor.
Milo ducked behind a heavy velvet rope. He gripped his jacket tightly, listening to the echoing clack-clack-clack of visitor shoes.
Peeking around a giant fossilized claw, he spotted something unexpected near the bottom of the exhibit.
He traced the dinosaur's giant foot with his eyes, carefully counting the bumpy, rock-like toes.
An empty wire stuck out into the air. Milo tilted his head and pressed a hand against the smooth glass.
The scariest dinosaur in the whole museum was actually missing a piece!
Milo stepped away from the safe wall. He spotted a guide wearing a bright blue vest and waved.
“Excuse me, the T-Rex lost a little toe,” Milo said, his bright voice bouncing off the high stone ceiling.
The guide kneeled down, her shiny name tag catching the light, and smiled a huge smile.
“Even the biggest monsters needed small pieces to stand tall,” she whispered, handing Milo a real magnifying glass.
Milo gripped the heavy brass handle and proudly examined the towering fossil teeth through the lens.
He planted his sneakers wide on the floor and let out a mighty, echoing roar.
