The sunny playground was busy and bright. Dalle rolled to the wobbly red wagon and reached for the handle. “I need it for my block tower game,” said Jerry, reaching for it too.
Dalle pulled one way. Jerry pulled the other way. Clatter! The wagon tipped, and both of them froze with little frowns.
Jerry set blocks into the wagon as fast as he could. At the same time, Dalle loaded in sand toys. “Hey!” said Jerry. “I’m using that!”
A block slid out. A scoop flopped down. The mixed-up game turned into silly spills and grumpy words, and Dalle thought, This is not fun at all.
Dalle stomped off toward the slide. Jerry dragged the wagon toward the sandbox. Both of them looked away from each other.
Then one wagon wheel sank and stuck. Jerry tugged hard, but it would not budge. Dalle watched from the slide and thought, That wagon still needs me.
“Can you help me?” Jerry called. Dalle rolled back over. “Okay,” he said.
Together they wiggled the wagon free. Then they tried taking turns, first carrying blocks, then hauling sandy treasure. The main character thought, This works much better.
The wagon still wobbled and bumped over the ground. Jerry laughed first. Dalle heard the rattly noise and started laughing too.
They grabbed the wagon sides together and raced it across the playground in one noisy game. “Go, go, go!” Jerry shouted. Dalle raced beside him, laughing all the way.
