The room was dark. A tiny light twinkled outside the window.
He sat up and stared. Then he crawled forward on his tummy until his small hands touched the cool windowsill.
He stretched out his arm toward the window. The little star winks and drifts closer.
He reached again. The star zipped up and away with a soft *shhhhk* sound.
He clapped his hands together. The star did a little spin in the air.
The star hovered right at the edge of the open window. He leaned forward until his nose bumped the glass. 'Ooh,' he whispered.
He held out his flat palm on the windowsill. The star dropped slowly, like a feather.
It settled right into the center of his hand. He gasped and laughed out loud, curling his fingers around the tiny warm glow.
He lay down on his back, the star resting on his chest beside his cheek. It pulsed gently, like a tiny nightlight.
His eyelids grew heavy and he closed his eyes, smiling in his sleep as the star kept watch.
Deep in dreams, he dreamed of stars and sky.
And the star stayed with him all night long.
