Ale Silva stepped onto the green grass. A little boy held up a shiny football. Ale signed it with a quick swipe of his marker.
The ball bounced away—boing, boing—straight under the goal net. Ale tugged and pulled, but the net held tight. "Come on," he whispered.
A teammate pointed to a loose blue thread near the corner. Ale grabbed it and pulled gently. The net loosened with a soft rip.
The ball popped free—plop!—and landed right at his feet. "Nice one!" his teammate called.
The match was on. Ale's team passed quickly, but the other side blocked every shot. Nothing went in.
Ale chased the ball all over the field. He called for a pass, and a teammate kicked it straight to him.
He controlled the ball and looked up. There was a gap—wide open. But the defender was closing in fast.
The final minutes ticked away. The score was still tied. Ale ran toward the opponent's goal with the ball at his feet.
He saw his teammate wide open. He saw the shot too. For one second, he paused—then passed.
The pass sailed through the air. His teammate struck it—and goal! The stadium exploded. His teammates lifted him high.
Ale held the Copa Libertadores trophy high. The little boy from the front row waved his blue program. "Sign this, please!"
Ale signed the program with a big smile. The crowd sang his name. He walked off the field, his tired feet feeling light.
