Alex sat on the edge of the bed and stared out the window. Cars flew past in the sky instead of driving on the road. Everything's different, Alex whispered.
Alex tiptoed downstairs and opened the front door. The sidewalk lit up blue under Alex's feet. A robot rolled up and offered a flower. Good morning, it said, and Alex took it with a worried frown.
Alex walked down the street and saw a kid on a hoverboard zoom past. The kid did a wobbly loop and bumped gently into a fire hydrant with a comical honk.
Alex laughed out loud. The kid waved. Want to try? the kid called.
Alex ran to the park where kids were playing with floating balls. Alex caught a ball and tossed it to a new friend.
Alex tossed the ball to a new friend, and the ball bounced off a robot's head with a cheerful ding. Alex smiled big and kept playing.
A big dancing robot rolled into the park and started doing silly moves. Alex watched with wide eyes.
Alex copied the robot's funny dance, spinning and hopping until both were laughing. The flying cars zoomed overhead, painting streaks of light in the sky.
Alex waved goodbye to the robot and walked home under the glowing streetlights. The neighborhood felt less strange now.
Alex climbed into bed with a happy sigh. The neighborhood felt less strange now.
Alex dreamed of all the adventures ahead. Tomorrow would be even more wonderful.
Everything was different, but maybe different wasn't so bad after all.
