Morning whirled around the kitchen. Dad poured cereal, tied a shoe, and wiped a splash from the table. Bramble whispered, “I’m going to thank Dad!”
The toaster sprang up with a loud POP! Bramble jumped, then held the crayon tighter. He thought, “My thank-you must be big.”
At the park, Dad spotted Bramble’s wobbly wheel. He knelt and turned a tiny screw while Bramble watched. Squeak, squeak went the wheel.
Bramble folded a page and drew the turning screw. The wheel squeaked once more. He wrote, “Thank you for helping.”
Bramble drew Dad pushing the swing and carrying a snack. Then a gust whooshed through the park. Pages flew everywhere!
Bramble raced after the pages. One landed on a duck-shaped bush. The drawing looked as if it were quacking: “Quack!”
At home, Bramble gathered every page. He taped them into a surprise book and carried it to Dad. “This is for you.”
Dad opened the book. “Thank you for breakfast. Thank you for helping. Thank you for today.” He turned each page slowly.
Dad closed the book and hugged Bramble. Paper rustled between them. Bramble added one last drawing: Dad and Bramble sharing a hug.
The new page waited beside the book. Bramble picked up the crayon. Dad leaned close, ready to fill it together.
