Alma found something behind the sofa cushion. A faded photo with three people in it. 'Who are you?' she whispered.
She leaned closer. The photo shimmered — and the young man inside waved right at her. Alma gasped. The frame glowed warm gold.
Alma stepped into the picture. The two grandfathers bowed and laughed, offering their hands to dance. 'Come on!' said one. Her giggle tickled like feathers.
The young man spun her into the dance. Her feet barely touched the floor. 'One more!' she shouted — but the flowers bloomed and faded in a blink.
A hospital window appeared in the photo. A tiny baby in a November hat yawned at her. Alma pressed her palm to the glass. The baby pressed back.
She watched her parents grow up together — building a table, hanging a mobile, painting a room yellow. The moments stacked like blocks. The whole family fit inside the frame.
Alma carried the photo through the house, pointing it out to everyone. Her mom held it up to the light. Alma's own reflection appeared beside the wedding day, grinning.
Night fell. The house grew quiet. The wedding photo sat on the fridge, glowing faintly like a nightlight. Alma slept with one arm over her pillow, smiling.
