A lonely howl rose beneath the sparkling stars. Alvarito followed it down the sunny neighborhood street.
The sunny street changed into a moonlit path. Crunch, crunch went the leaves beneath Alvarito’s shoes.
Beside a silver mailbox stood the Wolf of the Stars. He pointed upward: one star was missing from his guiding constellation.
Alvarito whispered, “We’ll find it.” The Wolf of the Stars nodded, and they began searching.
They searched beneath porches, behind flowerpots, and under a parked bicycle. A bright ping popped from a trash can.
Out sprang a shiny spoon! Alvarito laughed, then kept looking.
At last, they spotted the missing star flickering in a tall tree. Alvarito climbed onto a low branch.
The branches creaked. The star slipped farther away, just beyond Alvarito’s fingertips.
Alvarito held out his red scarf. With the wolf’s gentle help, he caught the star.
The star burst into silver light. Alvarito smiled as the Wolf of the Stars followed its glowing path home.
