Amara sat on her play mat, hugging her sparkly blue star close.
A knock sounded. Leo stood at the door holding his clay dragon. 'Can I play?' he asked. Amara shook her head and pulled the star behind her back.
She tried to make the star dance. She whispered secrets to it. It stayed perfectly still. The wind rattled the window.
Leo was still on the rug. Clink. Clink. He poked his dragon with one finger.
Clink. The dragon tipped over and rolled toward Amara's foot.
Amara picked up the dragon. It wobbled in her hands. She looked at Leo, who was watching her.
The window caught again. The star slid off the mat, tumbling toward the bedroom door. Amara reached for it, but Leo's hands closed around it first.
Leo held the star up. It threw a blue glow across the rug. 'It's shiny,' he said. He grinned.
'You can have half,' Leo said. 'Or we can share the whole.' He held his hand out.
Amara stared at his hand. Then she smiled.
