Anita sat in the bright classroom and flipped through her rock project booklet. She yawned at the gray stone pictures.
She looked out the window. A tiny blue bug buzzed past, leaving a sparkle trail in the air.
Anita ran into the schoolyard and followed the sparkle trail. It led to a crack in the pavement.
She knelt down. The crack glowed faintly blue. Anita pulled out her magnifying glass and held it over the crack.
She dropped a leaf. She tapped a pebble. Nothing happened. Then she poured a drop of water. WHOOSH! Sparkling blue light burst from the crack.
Anita gasped. She scrambled to her notebook and sketched the crack, the bug, and the glowing water. She realized the crystals lit up when wet.
She ran back to the classroom, her notebook clutched tight. She told her teacher about the sparkling crystals.
The teacher smiled. 'Save it for the science fair!' she said.
Days later, the science fair filled the gym. Anita stood by her display board with a jar of the glowing soil.
Anita added a few drops of water to the jar. The crystals flared up bright blue. The crowd oohed and aahed.
People gathered around, peering at the sparkling blue jar. Anita beamed beside her project.
Anita stared at the glowing soil. She was already planning her next experiment.
