The bully grabbed Pip and stuffed the little chick into the school’s lost-property cupboard. Coats flopped, lunchboxes clattered, and Pip shouted, “Help!”
The cupboard door banged shut. Pip pecked at the wood and called, “Help!”
Pip pushed a pile of hats. The floppy green hat tumbled down and covered the little chick like a tent.
Pip wiggled and called again. Outside, shoes hurried past, and the busy hallway swallowed the sound.
A child opened the cupboard while searching for a lunchbox. Pip hopped onto a shelf and pointed toward the door with one tiny wing.
The child whispered, “I’ll help,” and moved the coats aside. Pip stepped carefully into the clear hallway.
The child carried Pip through the school. The bully watched as Pip pointed toward the lost-property room.
The child told the teacher what happened. The teacher listened, and the bully returned Pip’s place in line.
At lunchtime, Pip sat safely beside the kind child. The little chick shared a crumbly biscuit as the child made space at the table.
Around them, the room buzzed. Pip peeped, “Hello,” and the child smiled.
