Barnaby marched down the fern path. He held out a bright blue berry. The triceratops saw him and scrambled behind a trunk.

He took a step back. The berry fell into the moss with a soft squish.

Barnaby tiptoed toward the stegosaurus munching leaves near a puddle. He cleared his throat cheerfully.

The stegosaurus stomped, splashed the puddle, and bolted into the brush. Barnaby watched the ripples slow.

He sat under a swaying palm and pulled a wide leaf over his head to hide. A groan rose from the trees above.

A crack — a heavy branch broke free and fell straight toward the hiding triceratops and stegosaurus. Barnaby sprang up and charged.

He slammed his broad chest against the falling branch just before it landed. His shoulders strained and his teeth clenched tight.

The wood trembled, then held steady. The triceratops and stegosaurus peeked out from beneath the fronds.

He shoved the branch aside with one huge step. It thudded into the dirt.

The stegosaurus offered a mouthful of crisp fronds. The triceratops nudged the bright blue berry back toward him with her nose.

Barnaby chewed slowly and thumped his tail once against the warm ground.

The jungle hummed. Two new friends stood close. The berry was gone, but something else had been found.
