Sunlight sparkled across the swamp classroom. Bellow roared, “A!” The lily-pad desks wobbled, and the alphabet banner flapped wildly.
Bellow grinned at the noisy surprise and charged on. “B!” The rattling shelves shook alphabet cards into the water.
“C! D! E!” Bellow blasted each letter louder. Splash, splash, splash—the water sloshed over the lily-pad desks.
Bellow laughed at the splish-splash. The water kept sloshing, and the classroom grew hard to hear.
The middle letters boomed across the room. The alphabet banner dropped over Bellow’s snout, and a lily-pad desk bumped into him.
Around the room came tiny whispers: “Please, Bellow.” Bellow stopped. Even the dripping water sounded loud.
Bellow took one slow breath. “X… Y… Z.” The cattails gave only a tiny swish, but every letter reached the room.
Bellow tried the alphabet again, from A to Z. Each gentle letter floated across the sunny swamp classroom.
