Ben hopped to the edge of the garden. Something shiny peeked out from the grass.
A tiny white egg lay half-buried in the soft grass. Ben picked it up gently. It was warm and smooth against his paw.
Ben carried the egg back to the burrow. He showed it to Anna.
They placed the egg on a nest of clover. The two of them sat beside it all evening.
Ben hummed a soft song. He bounced gently. He even tipped the egg upside down.
Anna giggled and tickled his ears. Ben blushed bright pink.
Then — crack. Another crack. A tiny black nose poked out.
The baby wiggled free and let out a tiny squeak.
The sun began to set over the meadow.
Ben and Anna sat side by side on the clover, watching the sunset.
Their paws were linked. The baby nuzzled between them.
The meadow was quiet and warm. It was perfect.
