The family gathered around the dinner table. Bhagyashri heard her uncle's booming laugh echo through the room.
She tugged her uncle's sleeve. "Tell me another story!" He wiggled his eyebrows and whispered, "Some stories are secrets." Bhagyashri's eyes widened. She decided to discover every story.
In the kitchen, flour dusted the counter like snow. Her grandmother stirred a pot and began, "I once rode a bullock cart in the monsoon..." Bhagyashri's mouth dropped open with delight.
At the laundry line, soap scent floated in the air. Her mother smiled. "One winter, our blanket fort snowed inside!" Bhagyashri giggled and quickly sketched the idea in her notebook.
She found her shy uncle behind the newspaper. "I don't have any stories," he mumbled. But then he lowered the paper just a little.
He pulled out a small wooden frame. Inside was a photo of a boy with a frog and a dried leaf. "I kept this leaf once," he said softly. Bhagyashri sketched the leaf, wondering at every story.
Bhagyashri filled every page — drawings of bullock carts, blanket forts, frogs, and leaves. Wiggly captions danced beneath each picture.
The whole family gathered around as Bhagyashri held up her book. They laughed, they hugged, and her face lit up like a star.
