friendship and finding your place

Near a bubbling stream, a big bear walked toward three squirrels playing near the water. They were busy stacking acorns into a tall tower. The bear stretched out his paw to wave hello.

The tower tumbled. Acorns rolled everywhere. The squirrels chittered and scattered into the trees in a rush of brown fur. The bear pulled his paws close to his chest and watched them go.

The bear wandered to the stream's edge, where two frogs sat on a flat rock. He tried to hop close, but his giant foot splashed water high into the air. The frogs dove under the lily pads with a rapid plop-plop-plop.

Alone on a flat stone, the bear watched dragonflies skim the water. Their wings clicked softly against the quiet. He tucked his paws beneath him, trying to make himself small.

A high-pitched squeak reached the bear's ears. He pushed through tall grass toward a dark thorny bramble patch, his broad shoulders scraping the reeds. Something was trapped inside.

Inside the thorns, a little bunny was caught, her foot tangled and her eyes wide with fright. The bear reached in with enormous care, parting the prickly branches without a single thorn catching her.

The bear lifted the bunny free and carried her through the trees until the familiar burrow came into view. A mother bunny and father bunny stood at the entrance, watching with worried faces.

The mother bunny pressed her small nose against the bear's giant paw. His ears twitched. Behind them, the father bunny and two little bunnies peered out, their eyes wide with relief and gratitude.

Now the forest gathered near the stream. Two frogs hopped onto the big bear's back, and a family of bunnies climbed up too. Squirrels found perches on his shoulders. The bear waded into the water, slow and steady.

The whole forest followed across together. Bobo walked slowly through the stream, his big paws finding steady spots in the stones. The bunnies nibbled his fur gently, and the stream bubbled cheerfully beside him.
