Daddy took my hand and we marched past the red barn. Chickens clucked and flapped all around us.
We splashed through a muddy puddle right by the vegetable garden. The farmer handed me a warm brown egg.
I held the egg like a treasure. "It's so warm," I whispered.
We followed the fence line into the green pasture and counted the sheep. One, two, three...
But the fourth sheep was missing! I set down the basket and saw clover stems on the ground.
I followed the clover stems all the way to the big hay bale at the far side of the field.
A little lamb was stuck behind the hay bale! I pulled and tugged at the hay until it wiggled free.
The lamb let out a tiny bleat that sounded like a giggle. I laughed and picked up the basket.
Daddy came running over. We both hugged the little lamb right there in the field.
The lamb followed us back to the flock. Daddy carried the egg basket as we walked.
The sky turned orange and pink as we walked home together.
What a good day on the farm.
