A tiny shadow appeared on the bedroom wall. Bramble sat up. His ears perked.
Bramble reached his paw toward it. He scooted closer. His paw went right through. Nothing there.
The shadow waited. Bramble squinted. He pressed his paw against the wall — but it was just a shadow.
Bramble's shoulders slumped. He pulled his paw back. 'Oh,' he thought.
A thin moonbeam crept across the floor. It found the nightlight, and together they painted everything gold.
The warm light touched Bramble's fur. His ears lifted. He let out a soft breath.
The shadow on the wall swayed with the breeze. Bramble watched it go.
Bramble snuggled back into his pillow. He held his blue scarf close and let the quiet dark hold him too.
