Crack! Thunder shook Bravora’s cozy cave. She rushed to the opening and saw storm clouds spinning around the village below.
Rain drummed on the rocks. Rushing water trapped the villagers behind the flooded road, and their lanterns flickered like tiny stars.
Bravora spread her wings. A wild gust whooshed past, so she pulled them back and gripped the cave floor. “Not yet,” she whispered.
Bravora tied a bright cave rope around a sturdy rock. Then she flew a short loop above the valley to test the wind.
The wind flipped Bravora upside down. She landed with a muddy plop, then spotted a safe path along the mountain ledge.
Bravora launched into the storm and circled above the village. “Follow the lanterns!” she called, pointing the way along the ledge.
The villagers hurried after the lanterns. A sudden gust snatched Bravora’s guiding lantern, and she dove after it.
Bravora caught the lantern before it struck the rocks. She rose above the path, holding its golden glow steady.
Step by step, the villagers followed the light through the mountain pass. Behind them, the flooded road disappeared into rain.
At last, the villagers reached dry ground. The storm rolled away, leaving quiet peaks and a wide patch of blue sky.
Bravora landed beside the village gate, wings trembling from the flight. The villagers cheered and lifted their lanterns high.
Bravora looked up. The sky cleared from peak to peak, and she spread her wings once more.
