Dan swung open the door. “Good morning!” he shouted to Dana and the dog.
“Woof!” barked the dog. Its nose bumped the bright bowl, sending it skittering across the floor. Dan laughed and chased it toward the desk.
Dan set breakfast beside the desk. He slid one piece of toast to Dana and one to the dog.
Crunch, crunch! The dog’s bowl spun in a circle. Dan clapped while everyone ate together.
After lunch, Dan carried two napkins to the door. “Come dance!” he called to Dana and the dog.
Dan twirled. Dana stomped. The dog grabbed a napkin and whirled it like a tiny flag.
At dinner, Dan passed food around the table. The dog’s bowl slipped and rolled under the desk.
Dan and Dana crawled after the bowl. Beside it lay the lost spoon. “Found them!” Dan called.
Dan and Dana pulled everything back together. The dog waited beside the table, tail tapping the floor.
Dan shared the last bite. “Good night,” he said to Dana and the dog.
Dan switched off the light. Three sleepy voices answered, “Good night!”
The dog curled beside the desk. Dan smiled, and the house grew quiet after their happy, shared day.
