Bronco’s hooves clattered past the abandoned railway yard. Rusted tracks vanished beneath desert dust while loose tin signs rattled in the wind. From a dark freight car came a whisper: “The Ghost Hauler is coming.” Bronco stopped, then turned toward the sound instead of running away.

Bronco pushed through the crooked gate and followed pale hoofprints between silent railway cars. A brass lantern flickered inside one open car. The Ghost Hauler lifted a sheet-like arm and pointed toward a dust-covered package. Bronco gave a cautious snort and edged closer.

Bronco nudged the package onto a wooden platform. WHOOSH! A desert gust sent it rolling down the tracks. Beneath clanging signal bells, Bronco galloped after it and pinned the parcel with one hoof. From the freight car, the Ghost Hauler called, “Please—one last delivery.”

Bronco lifted the package carefully and crossed the moonlit town. Empty porches gleamed with silver dust, and shuttered shops watched from the quiet street. At the old station house, a broken clock hung above a faded mailbox. Bronco thought, “This must be where the last delivery belongs.”

Bronco dropped the parcel into the mailbox. POP! The box burst open, and bright paper birds spiraled into the night. They circled the Ghost Hauler, who had followed silently from the yard. Their golden wings brushed the station walls until every dusty window shone.

A shining train rolled from the darkness without shaking the rails. The Ghost Hauler climbed aboard and raised one silver-gloved hoof through the window. “Thank you,” came the soft farewell. Bronco watched as the whistle sang across the desert and the train climbed toward the stars.

The shining train disappeared beyond the stars. Bronco returned to the quiet railway yard, where the lantern still flickered beside the empty platform. The desert wind moved through the cars with a long, gentle hush. Bronco stood listening until the last whistle faded.

After that night, Bronco visited the platform whenever the moon rose. The brass lantern waited, blue flame trembling behind cloudy glass. Beside it, one tiny paper bird rested on the boards. Bronco lowered his head to greet it, and the quiet yard whispered back.
