Brooklyn’s pony blinked its button eyes and stretched its fuzzy mane. It hopped off the bed and neighed, 'Hold on!' Brooklyn gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.
The pony nudged the window open with its nose. Cool night air rushed in, carrying the scent of pine and distant forest. Brooklyn inhaled deeply.
They tumbled into the forest, where silver leaves shimmered under moonlight. A brook gurgled over smooth stones, blocking the path. Brooklyn stepped carefully over roots.
'Jump!' said the pony. Brooklyn took a running start and leaped, landing with a soft splash that soaked her socks cold. She giggled at the chilly water.
Deeper in, a grumpy badger crossed its arms on the trail. 'Pass, pass!' chanted the pony, tapping its hooves. The badger scowled. Brooklyn tiptoed behind the pony.
The badger huffed and stepped aside, revealing a path of glowing mushrooms. They lit up Brooklyn’s giggles. Purple and blue caps glowed like fireflies. Brooklyn reached out to touch one.
The ground trembled, and a massive root lifted up, blocking the way back. 'We're stuck!' Brooklyn cried, her voice shaking. She clutched the pony’s mane.
The pony reared and whispered, 'Together,' and they braced against the root. It groaned and rolled aside, revealing a clearing painted pink with dawn. Brooklyn gasped at the beautiful light.
Brooklyn and the pony trotted home through dewy grass as the first bird chirped. The pony leaped back onto the bed, and Brooklyn pulled the covers up to its chin. Morning warmth filled the room.
'Our secret,' she whispered. Morning light spilled warm and gold across the floor, and Brooklyn smiled at the fuzzy pony beside her. Its button eyes sparkled in the light.
