Golden sunlight stretched across the bedroom wall. Beepy blinked a cheerful green light. Captain Sugarbeam struck a tiny superhero pose.
He strapped on his bright red cape and marched to the park. At the bottom of the slide, he spotted a girl sitting alone.
He walked over and plopped down beside her. 'Here,' he said, offering a cracker from his pocket.
She shook her head. 'I can't pump my legs.' Her lower lip started to wobble.
Captain Sugarbeam climbed onto the slide seat and bounced his knees. 'Watch me!' He showed her how to pump.
He sat close and whispered, 'The first time I tried, my legs felt wobbly too.' The girl looked up at him.
'Beepy reminds me,' he said. 'Brave means you're scared and you try anyway.'
She took a deep breath. Her hands grabbed the sides of the slide. She started to pump her legs.
Whoop! She shot down the slide, faster and faster. Captain Sugarbeam jumped up and cheered the loudest.
That evening, Beepy blinked green. Captain Sugarbeam munched his snack in bed and thought about how helping someone feel brave made him feel the strongest.
