Sunlight stripes the kitchen table. Cece reaches toward the cookie jar during snack time.
Pop! The lid springs open. One cookie rolls across the table, and crumbs sparkle in the sunlight.
“Cookie!” Cece follows it past a warm mug and a napkin. Clang! The cookie bumps a spoon.
The cookie stops beside Ava’s plate. Cece points and whispers, “Please?”
Ava lifts the cookie and breaks it in two. One half crumbles into a tiny pile.
Cece giggles at the cookie dust. Ava places one half in front of her.
Cece offers Ava a crumb. Ava offers Cece the biggest bite.
Crunch, crunch! They munch together. The cookie jar gives one last funny pop.
Cece and Ava set the empty plate between them. Ava pours milk into two cups.
They reach for another cookie together. The sunlight stays on the table.
