Colby pressed the big red button. His little car zoomed across the driveway. On his screen, Spencer’s car raced right alongside it.
He grabbed a piece of blue chalk. He drew a giant heart around Spencer's name on the sidewalk. 'Will you be my adventure buddy?' he wrote underneath.
Colby tapped the button again. Nothing happened. The screen stayed dark. He sat on the sidewalk and stared at the quiet driveway.
A package thudded on the porch. Colby tore open the box — inside was a brand-new RC car and a note. 'I'm moving to your town next week!'
His mouth dropped open. He pressed the button. Two cars zoomed across the driveway together. They raced side by side, tires humming against the concrete.
They raced their cars down the sidewalk, past ice cream shop drawings and chalk hearts. They laughed and waved at each other through the screen.
Colby and Spencer zoomed their cars into a giant finish-line loop drawn in rainbow chalk. They cheered as their cars crossed the line together.
The sun began to set over the quiet streets. Colby smiled, knowing his adventure buddy was finally coming home. They would race forever.
