Daisy crept along the pond edge, her boots whispering against the pebbles. She spotted a tiny green frog sleeping on a lily pad. A dragonfly skimmed the water nearby.
She knelt down, her brow furrowed in concentration. Daisy watched the dragonfly dance just above the water, its wings catching the light.
Daisy called 'Little frog?' from behind a curtain of purple foxgloves. A bumblebee buzzed past her ear and flew up toward the sky.
'Little frog?' she whispered again, lifting a giant rhubarb leaf. A tiny froglet sprang into the air and vanished into the reeds.
She wiped mud from her cheek and marched on, her yellow boots squelching through the soft mud. Something just beyond the reeds called to her.
Daisy froze. A faint croak echoed from somewhere behind the reeds. She pushed the stalks aside and gasped at what she saw.
Six green frogs huddled together on a patch of dry moss. The tiniest one, the froglet from the lily pad, looked up at her.
The smallest frog let out a loud ribbit and hopped right onto her yellow boot. Its skin felt cool and bumpy against her leather.
Daisy sat back on her heels and watched. The biggest frog gently nudged the tiny one onto her broad green back with her snout.
Daisy reached into her pocket and pulled out a single blueberry. She set it down near the moss as a quiet gift for the hungry family.
She stood up, her boots leaving fresh prints in the mud. Then she walked home with a happy skip in her step.
Behind her, the pond lapped gently against the shore. The frogs settled into the quiet evening and the reeds swayed in the soft breeze.
