In a dry valley between two hills, two armies stood facing each other. Silence hung heavy in the hot air.
The giant warrior stomped to the edge and bellowed, "I challenge you!" The army behind him went very still.
A young shepherd boy ran to the ridge and looked down. He saw the giant's bronze armor glinting in the sun.
He dropped to his knees and smoothed five small stones in the dirt. He picked the best one and loaded his sling.
He swung. Whoosh. Whoosh. Whoosh. "God is with me," he whispered.
The stone flew through the air — a white streak against the blue sky.
It struck the giant warrior right between the eyes with a sharp TINK! His eyes went wide, and then — THUD!
The army cheered so loud the birds took flight. The young shepherd boy picked up a new stone and smiled.
The giant warrior fell face-first into the dust with a tremendous crash.
Cheers rolled across the stones like thunder. Birds took flight from the dry hills.
The hills grew quiet again. The young shepherd boy slipped a stone into his pouch and looked out over the valley.
The stones in his pouch felt a little different now. He was just a shepherd boy, but he had faced a giant.
