Elisa wandered through the glittering gardens of the Chameleon Kingdom. Rainbow flowers brushed past her arms as she walked, but she kept going deeper and deeper.
In the farthest corner, a single silver-blue bloom caught her eye. Its petals shimmered like the necklace her mother used to wear. She crouched beside it and traced one petal gently with her fingertip.
She carried the bloom home and set it on her windowsill. But as evening light fell, the petals began to droop. The shimmer faded, and the silver-blue turned a dull grey.
She filled a glass jar with water and set the flower inside. But it only wilted further, its last traces of color fading away. Elisa lifted the jar to her ear. Nothing.
She carried the jar back to the garden and knelt where she first found the bloom. Pressing her small fingers into the warm earth, she set the jar down and whispered, 'I'm sorry.'
The soil trembled. A thin silver stem rose from the earth, and dozens of tiny silver-blue petals lifted upward like a constellation of floating stars.
The stars spiraled down and settled into the ground. Where they landed, new silver-blue flowers burst open — glowing, breathing, alive.
Elisa gasped and covered her mouth with both hands. The garden filled with their light.
The next evening, Elisa returned to the garden. Silver-blue flowers were everywhere, swaying gently in the breeze. They hummed softly when she passed.
She sat among them, picked one, and pressed it to her cheek. When she smiled, the flowers around her shimmered brighter in return.
