Beside the sparkling river, a little zebra cried beneath an acacia tree. Ellie, Gerry, and Leo hurried over.
A fallen branch blocked the zebra’s path. Ellie gently lifted it with her trunk. “We’ll help you find your herd.”
Fresh hoofprints crossed the dust. The little zebra pointed ahead, and the friends followed through the tall grass.
Swish, swish! Tall grass hid the next prints. Ellie brushed the blades aside while Gerry and Leo searched.
The prints led to a wide muddy patch. Ellie stepped in first. SQUELCH! Mud splashed Gerry and Leo.
The zebra gave a tiny laugh, then sniffed out a dry path. Together, everyone searched for flat stones.
Step, step, step—the group crossed on flat stones. Near the riverbank, the zebra slipped.
Ellie stretched out her trunk and pulled the zebra to safety. SPLASH! A frog leaped from the mud.
Across the savanna came a joyful call: “Bray! Bray!” The little zebra raced toward the striped herd.
Golden grass danced around the runners. The zebra nuzzled Ellie’s trunk, then trotted home beside the herd.
