Ellie planted her feet wide and froze one leg in the air. A happy trumpet called from the tall grass. Her friend was coming.
She struck a tall pose, ears flared like fans. Through the yellow grass, she saw her friend peeking in. The friend just blinked once.
Ellie crossed her trunk over her head and wobbled on three legs. A butterfly landed on her nose and floated away. Her friend chuckled but kept walking closer.
She spun, jumped, and flopped on her belly with her legs kicking. Her friend tilted his head. Ellie's ears drooped. She stomped once. Twice. Then she sat down hard in the dust.
Ellie sighed and let her whole body go loose. Her ears began wiggling all by themselves. Her trunk swayed side to side like a grass stalk. She didn't even notice.
Her friend burst through the grass, trumpeting loud and bright! He circled Ellie, clapping his ears and pointing at her wiggling ears and swaying trunk. Ellie looked down and giggled.
Ellie wiggled her ears again. Her friend wiggled his. They swayed their trunks together, side by side, in the warm golden sun.
Ellie tried a fancy pose — one leg up, ears flared. Then she dropped it and went back to wiggling. Her friend trumpeted loud and bright, and Ellie did it again. And again.
