The Dragon Hills rolled under a warm sun. At the bottom, a sparkling waterfall rushed past Ember's little round home. Something golden glittered near the water.
Ember found the golden berry bush and stuffed his mouth full. His cheeks puffed out like balloons. He patted his tummy and heard a happy rumble. 'Time to share!' he thought.
He took a step and tumbled over a smooth river stone. Berries flew everywhere! Splash! The rushing water snatched them away before he could grab a single one. Ember gasped as the last berry disappeared.
Ember tried again. He picked up three plump berries and balanced them on his snout. Whooooosh! A sudden gust of wind whistled through the canyon and blew his hat off. The berries scattered into the tall grass. He froze.
He dove headfirst into the green patch, claws digging into the dirt. His tail thumped a rock and knocked loose a hidden cluster of bright red berries right under his nose! He pulled out a huge handful, eyes wide.
Ember sat cross-legged on the warm stones. He offered the fresh red berries to his waiting dragon friend. The friend crunch-ed loudly, scales clinking together. 'These are perfect!' the friend said, smiling back.
Ember watched his friend happily munching the red berries. The friend let out a contented little purr, scales tinkling like tiny bells. Ember's wings gave a soft, happy flutter.
The warm stones held the sun's gentle heat. Ember and his friends gathered close, sharing the sweet red berries under the open sky. The Dragon Hills felt just right.
