The spelling test ended with a soft scratch of pencils. Then the classroom clock coughed—PFFFT!—and purple smoke curled across the ceiling. Beneath the teacher’s desk, a tiny portal burst open, glowing like a coin-sized moon. A roar from the monster world rattled every window. Esteban grabbed a pencil-shaped hero wand and whispered, “After school starts now.”

Esteban plunged through the portal. He landed in a world where rocks bounced like rubber balls and candy-colored clouds bobbed overhead. Far away, a giant monster hugged a glass jar containing the afternoon sun. Esteban lifted the wand and thought, “That jar belongs in the sky.”

The giant monster sniffed the air. “Aaaachoo!” The sneeze blasted pebbles, clouds, and Esteban straight into a bush. The bush squeaked like a rubber duck. Esteban peered through its leaves, wand still sparkling, while the monster blinked at the ridiculous sound.

Esteban scrambled up a crystal hill toward the trapped sun. First, he pulled the jar. It did not budge. Next, he tapped the lid. Clink, clink—nothing. Finally, he sang the school’s morning song. The jar stayed shut, but the nearest monsters tilted their heads and listened.

One monster copied the first note. Another copied the next. Soon, the giant monster joined in with a deep, wobbly hum. Stomp! Stomp! Their feet beat time across the crystal hill. Each note made the sealed jar shimmer brighter, as if the sun were knocking from inside.

The hill shook harder. Esteban stepped onto its highest point and raised the pencil-shaped hero wand. The monsters gathered below, stamping louder. He led them through the school song, note by note, until every voice climbed toward one enormous final sound.

The final note boomed—DOOOOON! The glass jar popped open with a glittering blast. The afternoon sun shot upward, painting the clouds gold. The giant monster hiccupped once. A rainbow burst from its mouth and stretched across the sky like a cheerful bridge.

The portal opened beside the crystal hill. Esteban dashed through just as the school bell rang. He tumbled into the classroom, dusty and grinning, with one harmless rainbow hiccup tucked inside his pocket. Purple smoke puffed once, then vanished beneath the teacher’s desk.
