Finn opened the front door and stepped into the winding street. He clutched the blue scarf left on the chair. “Where is my family?”
A little bell jingled at the bakery. Finn followed its bright jingle down the street.
Finn showed the blue scarf to the baker. The baker pointed toward the park, and Finn hurried on.
Finn trotted past flower boxes. A red ribbon fluttered from a fence, so he tied it to the blue scarf. “This way?”
Warm bread crumbs led Finn to the fountain. A chalk star on the pavement pointed toward home.
A gust lifted the blue scarf onto a statue’s nose. Finn laughed and reached for a broom beside the shop door.
At the end of the street, familiar voices called, “Finn!” People hurried from the warm family home, carrying a matching blue scarf.
Finn dropped the broom and ran to them. The red ribbon streamed behind him as the family gathered close.
Finn squeezed into the family doorway while the baker’s bell jingled behind them. At home, the clues hung beside the door.
Everyone shared warm bread at the table. Finn leaned close, and they said, “We found each other.”
