Finni tucked his mossy blanket into the warm nest. Then he climbed the oak branch and pulled it over his head.
Finni counted his treasures — one, two, three. The shadows grew longer. A firefly blinked once, twice, then flew right up to his ear.
Finni peeked one eye open. The firefly circled his snout, leaving golden sparkles on the bark.
Finni's tail gave a nervous wobble. Half scared, half curious, he followed the glowing dots toward the nest below.
Finni climbed down and slipped into the nest — but three tiny beetle children gasped and scattered!
The firefly hovered over Finni's head like a little night-light. He let out a long sigh that ruffled the leaves.
Finni curled at the edge, careful not to squash anyone. The firefly landed softly on his snout and glowed warm.
The beetles crept back. One bumped Finni's tail, and he didn't move.
Soon all five of them slept together — a wobbling pile of scaly, shelled, and winged friends.
The great oak stood quiet. The forest breathed softly. And inside the nest, dreams floated on like fireflies.
