Finnley walked through the yellow school doors. His golden hair caught the bright morning light. Two bigger boys pointed at him. "Look at the sun!" one of them laughed.
The taller boy smirked and pointed again. Finnley's shoulders dropped. He kept walking without saying anything.
At recess, Finnley walked toward a group playing tag. "No sun here," one of them said. The bell rang. Finnley walked alone to the swings.
A little girl dropped her lunchbox. Her shoes had holes in them. The same boys laughed. "Stinky feet!" Finnley watched from the swings. He gripped the cold chains.
Finnley climbed down the swing. He walked over and stood next to the girl. "She doesn't stink," he said. His voice was small. The boys stopped laughing.
One of the boys held out his hand. "Sorry," he said. Finnley took it.
The girl smiled and showed her scuffed shoes. Finnley sat between them on the swing. The bell rang.
Nobody pointed anymore. The three of them walked inside together.
