Finn kicked open the craft box and handmade ornaments spilled everywhere. A paper snowflake landed on his nose and tickled.
He gasped and swatted it away, already grabbing the first star-shaped one.
Finn climbed onto a stool and tried to hang each ornament carefully. The star wiggles loose and plopped onto the carpet.
He picked it up and hung it higher this time.
Finn stepped back and the tree looked crooked and sad. He pulled at a crocheted gingerbread man until it snapped straight.
Then he placed a wooden reindeer on a bare branch and frowned at his work.
Finn blew gently on the last ornament and the snow outside seemed to glow pink.
Suddenly every ornament started to chime softly all by itself, and Finn dropped to his knees with his mouth wide open.
The whole family gathered around the tree. Mom knelt beside Finn and he pointed at each handmade ornament.
She smiled and said, 'You made all of those?' Finn nodded and held up the paper snowflake.
Dad squeezed his shoulder and said, 'Those are the best ornaments we've ever had.' The room filled with warm light.
Finn leaned against Dad and watched the tree glow. Every ornament told a story he had made with his own hands.
