Franco kicked the soccer ball hard toward the empty goal. The ball hit the crossbar with a loud CLANG and bounced back to tap his nose. He winced, blinking away the surprise of the sudden rebound.
He tried again, aiming low this time. The grass was slippery under his cleats, causing him to slide past the ball instead of kicking it. Franco landed on his bottom in the dirt, looking at the missed shot.
He stood up and wiped the grass stains from his knees. A group of friends ran onto the field, shouting for a game. Franco watched them approach, holding his breath as they arrived.
The friends passed the ball quickly among themselves while Franco stood alone. One friend tossed the ball gently toward him, stopping just out of reach. Franco stepped forward, ready to join the team.
Franco received the pass and scored a goal with a triumphant shout. His friends cheered loudly, high-fiving him as they ran together across the sunlit field. The golden light reflects off their smiling faces.

They continued running, laughing and shouting names across the open space. The game had finally begun, and every kick felt like a victory. Franco smiled, knowing he belonged on this team.
The sun dipped lower, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. Franco paused for a moment, catching his breath. The game would continue tomorrow, but today was perfect.
