The red locomotive train shot down the green tracks. His whistle screeched. Thick black smoke puffed from his chimney as he huffed past waving sunflowers.
He barreled into a haystack and sent it tumbling across the rails. A bunny froze, ears twitching, then hopped away fast.
Grumble huffed harder. "Not today!" he whistled. He picked up speed and rolled on.
Geese waddled across the track and Grumble swerved with a clatter. He tumbled into a patch of clover and knocked over three picnic baskets. Apples rolled everywhere.
A grown goose honked. Grumble's wheels spun and smoke came out in angry zig-zags.
Grumble screeched to a stop at the station. The stationmaster tapped his pocket watch.
Tick. Tick. Tick. He held out a hand. Grumble closed his eyes and took a big breath.
A soft white ring of steam floated up and drifted away.
Grumble rolled forward slow and steady. Ding. Ding.
Ding. Ding. A field mouse climbed onto his bumper and sat still. The countryside passed by in bright green and gold.
