Haya sat on the tower's highest stone. She called, "I am brave!" A bird dropped a feather on her head. She caught it tight.
A small trumpet sounded from below. Haya peeked over the tower edge. A baby giraffe was tangled in thorns, one leg caught and ears drooping.
Haya's paw tapped the stone twice. Then she climbed down the tower ladder, one rung at a time.
Haya reached the thorns and grabbed at the tangled leg. The thorns prickled her paw. "Ouch!" She pulled back, then reached again.
She gripped a thorn branch and yanked hard. It snapped with a crisp crack.
Haya worked fast, pulling thorn branches aside. "I am brave," she said. The last branch gave way — the baby giraffe stepped free and trumpeted loudly.
Haya's ears shot straight up. The baby giraffe nudged her shoulder with its nose and licked her ear.
Haya sat down in the grass and leaned against the giraffe's long leg. A warm breeze blew through the tower.
Haya whispered to the savanna, "I am brave."
The baby giraffe nudged her again. Haya smiled and whispered, "I am brave," to the savanna.
