Hazel marched down the sunny sidewalk in her red shoes. Click-clack went her steps. It was a good march.
A boy sat on a park bench, staring at the ground. A butterfly landed on his shoe. He did not move.
Hazel opened her backpack. She pulled out a small tin of cookies. She held it toward the boy.
He looked at the cookies. Then at his shoes. His fingers traced the edge of the bench.
The boy took a cookie. Crunch. He unfolded his paper — a map with a garden and a street.
He pointed to a blue door. The house with the blue door wasn't on his map. "Maybe we need to look for it," Hazel said.
Hazel grabbed the boy's hand and pulled him along the sidewalk. They passed the community garden.
The boy tripped over a garden gnome. Tumble — right into a pile of leaves. He popped up covered in leaves like a leaf-monster.
They reached the blue door. The boy turned and held out a single cherry tomato.
"For you," he said. Hazel took it. It was warm from the sun.
"See you tomorrow?" he said. Hazel nodded. She marched home, her red shoes clicking on the path.
Click-clack, click-clack. The red shoes marched on. Tomorrow would be a good day.
