Huss and his friends carried their woven picnic basket through the tall golden grass. The sunlit meadow stretched wide ahead, leading toward the dark-green line of the forest.
They set down the blanket when — POP! — a lumpy green mountain rose from the grass. Huss blinked, then burst out laughing. 'Adventure day!' he shouted.
Huss tried to climb straight up the grassy slope, but his feet slipped and he slid back down with a soft plop. Abb and Mahd giggled.
Haid just patted the empty spot on the blanket and watched. Then they found a winding path of smooth grey stones.
They marched in a line on the stones, but the trail looped back into a tangle of tickly green ferns. They squirmed free, laughing.
Huss spotted a sturdy branch leaning against a boulder and had an idea. He set it down across the gap at the edge of the stones.
Using the branch as a bridge, Huss leaped across the last gap and hauled himself over the summit. 'We did it!' he yelled.
A circle of rainbow flowers hummed softly in the wind on top of the green mountain. Huss gasped, then grinned wildly as the others tumbled after him.
Huss unpacked the basket and shared apple slices, crusty bread, and honey cakes with his friends. They ate until their fingers were sticky and their bellies were full.
The mountain hummed its little bell song as the sun began to dip low. Huss leaned back and smiled at the view.
