Joaquina pushed open the classroom door. Every computer woke with a cheerful beep. “Hello!” she called.
The glowing screens blinked hello. A waiting chair sat beneath a sunny window, pointing the way.
Joaquina sat down and tapped the keyboard. Colorful shapes marched across the screen in a bouncing parade.
POP! One shape zoomed away. Joaquina giggled and chased it with the mouse across the busy screen.
Joaquina clicked a smiling face. Spinning stars filled the screen, and the computer gave a silly boing!
Plop! The mouse landed on the desk. Joaquina picked it up and tried again, watching the stars slow down.
Joaquina pressed the biggest button. The printer rattled like a tiny train.
A long paper banner slid out: “WELCOME, JOAQUINA!” Joaquina clapped as the printer went click-clack.
Joaquina carried the banner across the classroom. The paper trailed behind her like a bright ribbon.
She hung the banner beside the computers. Underneath, one empty space waited. “My friends can come here, too.”
