Joey lived in a cozy village beside a big forest.
He reached for a shiny red button on Uncle Dan's desk. "Not now, Joey," Uncle Dan said, guiding him toward the backyard.
Joey stomped his foot and marched inside. He grabbed his blue backpack, stuffed in a toy truck and a cookie, then tied his shoes extra tight.
He marched out the door past Uncle Dan without a word and pushed through the trees into the forest.
Joey hummed a marching song. The dirt path crunched under his shoes, and dappled sunlight bounced through the leaves above.
A huge owl dropped from a branch right above Joey's head and hooted loud and low.
Joey yelped, tripped over a root, scrambled up, and ran so fast his backpack bounced against his shoulders.
The front door flew open and Joey tumbled into Uncle Dan's arms. Uncle Dan swept him up, grabbed his backpack, and closed the door with a soft click.
