The school gate stood tall against the blue sky. Kay gripped her red tablet tightly.
A boy waved from across the yard. Kay hid the red tablet behind her back.
Kay walked toward a group of children but stopped. Her mouth stayed shut.
A red balloon floated by and bumped her shoulder. Kay turned away quickly.
She stood near a sandpit. A block clattered on the stone. Kay looked at the ground.
Kay took a breath and opened her tablet. The screen lit up with a smiling sun.
Another girl saw the drawing. Her eyes went wide with surprise.
'Can I see more?' the girl asked. Kay nodded and handed over the tablet.
The girl giggled and pulled up a chair. Now they sat together.
The sun drew bigger circles. The girls watched the bright screen.
Kay felt less alone. The red tablet connected them.
The bell rang loud and clear. School was starting soon.
Kay stood up. Her friend stood too.
They walked toward the gate together. The red tablet was safe.
Kay smiled. It was going to be a good year.
The end.
