Leo pressed his face against his mother’s leg. The bright yellow door swung open. The room hummed with shuffling feet and giggles.
Leo peeked around the corner. A sea of tiny chairs formed a perfect circle. He gripped his mother’s hand tighter.
A small boy slid a single blue crayon across the floor. It stopped right at the tip of Leo’s sneaker. The crayon waited for a friend.
Leo let go of his mother’s leg and stepped forward. He picked up the blue crayon. It felt smooth and cool. The boy waved with a wide grin.
Leo crawled into the circle, placing the crayon on the rug. The teacher clapped her hands once. Everyone looked up and smiled.
Leo picked up the crayon and drew a big, wobbly lion mane on the paper. The colors blended together, turning orange and yellow, just like him.
