Leo zipped his backpack. The zipper got stuck halfway. His shoes squeaked on the kitchen floor.
Mom called from the hallway. 'You'll be late!' Leo's shoes squeaked again.
Leo walked to the big yellow school building. He gripped the classroom door handle. His knuckles turned white.
A loud giggle erupted from inside. Leo's shoulders hunched up toward his ears.
Leo peeked through the small window. A girl with a blue dinosaur backpack stood just like him.
She looked up and spotted him. She did a tiny wave. Leo grinned, showing his missing front tooth.
Leo pushed the door open with a loud CREAK. He stepped inside the classroom.
The girl scooted over on the nearest chair to make room. Leo sat down and patted his backpack. The bell rang.
