Leo stood at the school door. His paws tapped the floor. Tap, tap, tap.
The door swung open with a loud CREAK! Bright yellow light spilled across the floor.
Leo stepped inside and froze. Chairs towered like stools, tables stretched wide, and the alphabet wall reached the ceiling.
Leo took one step forward, then one step back. His ears drooped.
The teacher bent down with a warm smile. “Welcome, Leo! I’m so glad you’re here.”
Leo’s paw hovered. Then it rested in the teacher’s hand, and they walked to a small table.
Leo sat down. The boy slid a red crayon across the table. “Do you want to draw?”
Leo picked up the crayon. It was warm from the boy’s hand. He drew a big bear with a frown.
The boy giggled and drew a bright sun beside it. The bear on the paper looked less frowny.
Leo drew until the bell rang. DING! His paper showed a bear, a sun, and a big red crayon.
