Lila walked up to the kindergarten door. Her fingers wrapped tight around her stuffed bunny.
Inside, the classroom buzzed. Kids were everywhere — loud, noisy, exciting.
Crayons clattered. Blocks crashed. Lila's toes dragged across the rug.
Lila took a step toward the block builders. Then she stopped.
The teacher called her name and held out a hand. Lila shook her head and walked behind the bookshelf.
Lila pulled her bunny close and watched through the gap in the shelves.
Then she noticed someone else. A child sitting alone on a blue chair, staring at a puzzle with no pieces.
Lila's feet moved before she thought. She walked over and held out her bunny.
The child took the bunny. Then the child giggled. Lila giggled too.
Together they sorted puzzle pieces, bumping heads and laughing.
Story time. Lila sat on the rug with the blue chair beside her empty.
The teacher read about a brave little seed. Lila rested her chin on her bunny and listened.
