Lily pushed open her bedroom window and began her favorite rhyme. Above the village, tiny stars twinkled like scattered beads.
WHOOSH! A sudden breeze snatched the rhyme card from her fingers. Lily gasped as it fluttered over the rooftops like a tiny kite.
Lily raced down the hill after it. Gravel crunched beneath her shoes as the card dipped toward a quiet garden.
The card landed in a bush. Then—POP!—the breeze tossed it out again, skipping across the garden path.
Lily grabbed a broom and swept at the card. It zipped away, so she tried a basket, then a bedsheet.
FWUMP! The bedsheet billowed over Lily’s head like a white ghost. She giggled, pulled free, and chased the card toward the hilltop.
At the hilltop, Lily reached for the card as it skimmed over the grass. A bright shooting star streaked across the sky.
Lily stopped and whispered the rhyme from memory. One by one, the stars seemed to shimmer back.
The breeze settled. Lily picked up the rhyme card and carried it home beneath the quiet, sparkling sky.
